  • Committee Purpose

The Public Affairs Committee works to inform, educate, engage, and advocate for the Brookings business community regarding relevant public policy initiatives at the state and local level.

Monitoring local, state and national issues is an important function of the Public Affairs Committee. But it's not only trends the committee work with. Societal trends and emerging local issues are studied and evaluated based on their influences on business and economic health. These evaluations form the basis for policy recommendations and programs that should be created to help inform members. Thanks to this committee, the Brookings Chamber members are always up-to-date.

The Public Affairs Committee meets the first Thursday of each month at noon.

    Committee Events

Legislative Luncheons are designed to discuss legislative activity and other necessary issues emerging in South Dakota.

Candidate & Legislative Forums are conducted to allow area residents the opportunity to become better informed about the current legislative session and ask questions to the candidates in upcoming elections.

Day at the Capitol is designed to allow individuals the opportunity to see how our state government works. Community members travel to Pierre for the day and engage in conversation about Brookings with state Legislators. This event is planned in conjunction with Brookings Economic Development Corporation and SDSU.
