Economic Development Merger
What is the Merger Committee?
On November 26, 2024, the City of Brookings distributed a memo describing creation of a committee to define an effort to merge the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce, the Brookings Economic Development Corporation, Downtown Brookings, and Visit Brookings into one organization.
If an entity does not merge, they would not receive City funding. This may potentially impact the structure and operations of our organization beginning in 2026.
Timeline
The committee has met 2-3 times a month, and their meeting summaries are below. Per their tentative timeline:
- May - June 2025: the Committee will secure formal approval from City Council and the four existing organizations, and form the merged organization's new Board of Directors who will conduct the search for the new President / CEO
- Summer & Fall 2025: the President / CEO will be hired and the City of Brookings will direct FY26 funding to the merged organization
Please see below for documents and updates that have been shared publicly.
