    Position Description
    POSITION TITLE:                          Director of Membership
    REPORTS TO:                               President/CEO

    The Director of Membership is responsible for the recruitment and retention of members of the Chamber is also responsible for promoting opportunities for member marketing and networking.
    Full time, non-exempt position
    The Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce is a business membership organization with more than 500 business members. The mission of the Chamber is to promote, connect, enrich and advocate for the Brookings area business community. As an area Chamber, we have goals to expand our membership outside of Brookings are serve the business communities within a 25-mile radius. The Brookings Area Chamber builds a stronger business community and our membership is our number one priority.
    The Director of Membership will be required to oversee volunteers on any committees assigned by President/CEO, ensuring the work of said committees is and remains in line with the mission of the Brookings Chamber of Commerce. 
    • Responsible for recruitment and retention of new and existing members of the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce.
    • Implement and monitor a targeted recruitment and retention objectives through realistic goals.
    • Maintain a close relationship with new members through the first year to positively impact membership retention.
    • Organize, plan and execute member orientation through outreach, such as Chamber Boot Camp.
    • Plan, coordinate and implement all details of membership campaign(s).
    • Develop and maintain all membership sales, promotional and retention materials.
    • Promote and sell marketing opportunities such as e-blasts, banner ads, website ads, and other material through the membership Bundle Up program.
    • Maintain active information for both members and prospects in database through Chamber Master.
    • Develops and maintains membership prospect database and related membership statistics.
    • Provide training to all staff, board members, Ambassadors, and volunteers on membership benefits through Bundle Up!
    • Create and sustain networking opportunities between members.
    • Facilitate and attend relevant member events, including but not limited to Business of the Month delivery, ribbon cuttings, membership mixers and annual meeting.
    • Stay informed about new businesses in the Community.
    • This position will have daily contact with the business community.
    • All members of the staff, while assigned to specific responsibilities, are expected to assist whenever the need arises or help other employees.
    Bachelor’s degree with two years’ experience in at least one of the following areas: public relations, marketing, business management, and/or sales. Individual must be a self-starter and work as a team, as well as, independently; have demonstrated organizational and time management skills, proven sales and/or marketing experience and negotiating skills.  Verbal and written communication skills and ability to multi-task also required.  Individual must be proficient in Windows-based computer programs and social media marketing. Non-profit fundraising experience is desirable.

    This position requires working before or after normal business hours, including some weekend hours, and up to 10% travel.
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 30 pounds.
    Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
    Candidates will be subject to a background check.
    Base salary: $36,000-$40,000 depending on experience. Full time, non-exempt position with a competitive full benefits package.
