Kurtenbach Leads YP Network’s
“About 88 percent of the world’s population is shy,”Frank Kurtenbach said to a room full of 50 attendees during the Young Professionals Network “Effective Networking” luncheon on January 8th. “I hope this intro will help you learn ‘How to Work a Room.’” Kurtenbach’s presentation on “Effective Networking” largely based from Susan RoAne’s book, taught communication strategies for meeting people. Along with sharing examples from the book, Kurtenbach added his own life experiences; including being named the “Pineapple of the Day.” (If you want to know more about it, just ask him. He’s not shy and would love to make your acquaintance.) Kurtenbach used communication exercises for a large portion of the seminar. Attendees got a chance to meet new people through a mingling session. Kurtenbach also took a group of people through an elevator exercise in which he showed how great an opportunity it is to meet people. Kurtenbach says that he usually holds the elevator door open, closes it, faces the group and starts a conversation. “I wanted people to talk to each other. This place just exploded during the exercises,” said Kurtenbach. The Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Network’s next event will be a Winter Sledding Party at Larsen’s Sledding Hill on Sunday February 10th from 2-4pm.
