    Job Description
    The Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention Bureau is seeking an innovative and visionary leader for the position of Chief Executive Officer and President.  This person will help to fulfill the Chamber’s mission of promoting, connecting, enriching, and advocating for Brookings, a vibrant, growing, community, and its area businesses. 
    This position is a regular full-time position, offering paid vacation, holidays, health insurance, and retirement benefits.  Relocation is available.  We also offer a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience.  We are an equal opportunity employer (disability/veteran status).

    REPORTS TO:                                     
    Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors (16 Members)

    OVERALL FUNCTIONS:                  
    Responsible for the overall management and vision of the Chamber. Provide direction to staff and volunteers related to Chamber programs. Serve as the leader for the Executive Team and Board of Directors to establish policy, procedures, operational systems and implementation of the Chamber Strategic Plan. Advocate on behalf of local businesses. Oversee the Chamber Foundation and its endeavors.

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience, and three (3) years of experience in various management/leadership roles in a private, public, government, or military environment.  This person should have experience with non-profit organizations.  Two (2) year’s work experience in managing direct reports.  Strong interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated stakeholders and different interests in private, public, government or military environments.  Skilled at collaboration, building relationships, and trust with key stakeholders.

    1. Plan, supervise, and direct all Chamber staff, ensuring all processes are conducted efficiently and effectively and all assigned staff are trained, evaluated, and motivated to perform their responsibilities in an effective manner.
    2. Build and maintain strong relationships with Chair, Executive Committee and Board of Directors.  Plan and organize monthly Board meetings to assist in executing the goals and objectives of the Chamber.
    3. Develop the Chamber budget annually and work with the Finance Committee for annual approval by the Board. Oversee the preparation of monthly financial statements and facilitate necessary audits as required by the Bylaws.
    4. Manage, coordinate, and assist Chamber Committees in their efforts to implement programs and activities designed to support the Chamber’s Strategic Plan. With the support of the Committees, evaluate community needs and collaborate with other organizations to meet those defined needs.
    5. Organize community leadership programs on behalf of the Chamber ensuring implementation of a program that assists area citizens with their leadership efforts.
    6. Focus on membership retention and growth by meeting regularly with Chamber members and educating them on the Chamber’s goals, objectives and value proposition.  
    7. Foster and maintain positive public relations with the membership, media, community and government entities.
    8. Responsible for oversight of all Chamber media including traditional and digital channels. Develop the content for “The Link” monthly periodical sponsored by the Chamber.
    9. Coordinate the efforts of the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention Bureau Foundation and provide regular updates to the Chamber Board on Foundation activities.
    10. Represent the Chamber at community activities including business, charitable, civic and social events.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 30 pounds.
