2007 Organization Chart

5, Mixer Receptions
Purpose: Help members organize social events that will support their marketing efforts and attract attendees. Promote business-to-business and member-to-member business relationships.
Ag Relations, Brent Rohl, Chair
Purpose: Promote the Agricultural Industry. Help recognize area ag producers for the strong foundation they provide the area’s economy. Support public policies that will strengthen the agricultural production economy.
Ambassadors, Misty Young, Chair
Purpose: To build and maintain effective communication channels with the Chamber’s members. Recruit and welcome new members and assist with various membership networking events.
Business Expo
Purpose: Organize an event with social and recreational appeal to
Chamber members to increase member-networking and business marketing
opportunities.
Communications: Forums, Publications
Purpose: Organize periodic forums for members on timely topics related to the Brookings economy, its capacity for creating jobs, its ability to fund needed public services, government’s initiatives to influence its performance, and elected officials’ views. Publish a monthly newsletter. Initiate an E-newsletter. Expand the capabilities of the Chamber’s website (see brookingschamber.org. )
E-Commerce, Jay VanDuch, Chair
Purpose: Provide the local forum for discussing and
distributing web resource information and contacts. Maintain a primary
Brookings web site portal, help business members expand their technology
skills, and support the expansion of a technologically skilled workforce. (See www.BrookingsSD.com)
Economic Development
Purpose: Promote the economic well being of the Brookings
area. Support the goals and programs of Brookings Economic Development Corp. a sister organization with which the Chamber works to increase community prosperity. Members
are welcome to participate in its marketing, site development, technology
and other groups.
Festival of Lights, Dee Bormanm, Chair
Purpose: Organize a promotional event with recreational
appeal to increase consumer awareness of downtown Brookings business
and retail offerings.
Government Affairs, Dan Little, Chair
Purpose: Support public policies that foster economic growth, and community and SDSU prosperity. Monitor local, state and national issues. Monitor societal trends and emerging local issues to and evaluate their influences on business and economic health, recommend policies to address them, and implement programs to inform members.
Industrial Recognition
Purpose: Identify methods, procedures and forums
that will effectively publicize the ways that area manufacturers and
processors diversify, stabilize and strengthen the area’s employment
base and contribute to its prosperity.
Leadership Brookings, Robert Burns, Chair
Purpose: Offer a program for Brookings County citizens
that provides leadership skills training, exposure to and exploration
of community issues, and introductions to area business, education and
governmental leaders.
Military Affairs, Robert DeJong, Chair
Purpose: Promote a positive working relationship
among employers and area military and veterans groups.
Recognition Banquet/Luncheon
Purpose: Organize a function at which outstanding
leaders in business, community, education, industry and other segments
of the community, including the Chamber itself, can be appropriately
recognized for their achievements, and/or for their contributions to
their own industry or the community.
Retail Growth and Development
Purpose: Develop a structure, budget and program detail
for retail event advertising directed towards customers outside of Brookings
to expand the trade area.
Vision Brookings Coalition (Partnership), Al Kurtenbach, Chair
Purpose: Coordinate Member Organizations’ efforts
to expand the public and private resources that are available to those
organizations’ economic growth initiatives, and guide the allocation
of such resources.
Workforce Attraction Council, Randy Hanson, Chair
Purpose: Provide an environmentthat retains and attracts talented employees to Brookings.
Young Professionals Network, Carla Anderson, Barb Heller, Co-Chairs
Purpose: Provide a vehicle to help young professionals network and develop personally and professionally in an effort to retain dynamic and vibrant young individuals with the Brookings area.
